Heavy glass
This is a truly vintage piece. There are no visible cracks or chips, and there is no maker's mark. There is a seam that can be seen in the photos and a few wrinkles in the glass. This is common in pressed glass pieces, and it doesn't effect the strength of the piece. I just can't get enough vintage amber colored glass! The warmth it brings to a room is undeniable. I saw this bowl, and I knew that it was special. It took a little digging to realize it's not an LE Smith Moon and Stars piece. I was curious about it's proper name - was it called a compote? a fruit bowl? It's too big to be a candy bowl, well, not for me (haha!), but maybe for a size description at the time. I couldn't find it in the old catalogs, and in my digging, I learned that apparently various glassmakers have been making 'moon and star' patterns since the 1880s (fun fact!). I learned that this piece is from the 1960s and it's by Kemple Glass Co. I never learned it's 'proper name', but that's ok. I say it makes a gorgeous fruit bowl or a candy dish for a legend.
