I have been looking for a fabric like this for a few years now. I've seen vintage lamp shades with a strongly textured, wabi-sabi like weave in a range of tans and grays - and this is as close as I've ever seen. It's maybe a little better than the vintage ones because this thin linen is great for light diffusing.

I love the visual interest and how it automatically make a lamp shade feel finely aged. The color range is soft and inviting while still allowing plenty of light into a space. I think this shade fabric would look wonderful on a contemporary lamp, and it especially shines on vintage lamps.

The shade shown in the photos is 13"D x 9"H.

PLEASE NOTE: When checking out, please include three things in the Special Instructions box at checkout.

  1. The HARDWARE DROP height*
  2. Whether the hardware will be on the TOP or the BOTTOM of the shade (most often, for pendant lights the fitter is at the top, and for table lamps the fitter is at the bottom)
  3. (Optional) If you need an UNO FITTER or a nonstandard EURO FITTER SIZE**

*The HARDWARE DROP is how deep the hardware is recessed into the shade as measured from the edge of the shade. It is most commonly between 0"-3", but unlike spider rings, there is no standard height. Every shade can be different as it was designed to compliment the needs of its specific lamp. If you choose the wrong drop height, your shade will not sit at the correct height on the lamp.

For more information about measuring the drop on your current lamp shade, please visit my Drop Height blog post.

**EURO FITTERS are available in three sizes. The most common is the middle size, but there are also small and large euro fitters available. If you aren't sure which size is right for your lamp, here's how to check.

PRO TIP FOR LIGHT BULBS
For optimal performance, choose your bulb based on your shade size and not on what your lamp base can handle.

LEDs emit less heat than incandescent bulbs, but heat output is not the only thing that affects the well-being of your shade. Lumen output can affect how quickly a shade yellows with time.

'Wattage' is the measurement of energy used, and 'lumens' are the measurement of light output. The light bulb's lumen output is how we determine wattage equivalents. For example, a 60W incandescent light bulb and a 60W equivalent LED light bulb use different wattage but both give off a minimum of 800 lumens of light. Lumen output can affect a lampshade over time, and the higher the light bulb wattage/lumen output, the larger shade you should use.

The smaller the shade, the nearer it is to the light bulb, so I recommend not using more than a 40W equivalent on a 9 in. diameter shade.
