Custom Lamp Shades Process

Handmade Custom Lamp Shades

Made-to-order and Designed Around Your Lamp

It can be overwhelming, but my custom lamp shade process is simple and makes sure that we are pairing your lamp with a shade that fits your space in more ways than one.

Not all shades work on every lamp, so I'll make sure that the size, hardware, and shape of your shade is compatible with your lamp.

POSSIBILITIES:

Sizes:

I can make custom lamp shades in sizes 4" to 20" in any direction.

Fabrics:

My fabric collection includes linen, silk, cotton, and paper options. I prefer the beauty of natural fibers, and I prioritize fabrics that look just as beautiful lit as they do when the light is off. Each of my fabrics goes through 6 months of testing with my glues, with sunlight, and with different shade shapes. Not all fabrics perform the way I need them to, therefore I don't currently offer COM (customer's own material) for small batches or individual shades.

Hardwares:

I make custom lamp shades with spider washer, uno fitter, euro fitter, and custom drop hardware. I use a few different hardware fabricators to give me the flexibility I need to create shades that will work with most lamps. If you don't see the hardware you need, or if you aren't sure, please send me a photo of your shade's hardware.

PROCESS:

Step 1 - Gather

Since I can't be in your space with your lamp, there are some key pieces of information I need to collect to start this process. I have a handy 4-Point Checklist that consists of 1. Photo, 2. Measurements, 3. Location, and 4. Use.

Each of the requested details gives me insight that will help me to suggest the best shape and fabric choice(s), and will allow me to create a digital mock-up of your lamp showing the potential shade option(s).

Here is my 4-Point Checklist

Step 2 - Review

Once I have the 4-Point Checklist information on your lamp, it will take me a couple days to get back to you with the mock-up and my recommendation. At that point, I will give further instructions on confirming the proper height, and we will take any final measurements for the hardware if needed.

Step 3 - Finalize

You may go into this process already knowing which fabric you would like, but not always, and that's ok. Sometimes, in the process of discovery, we might find that another fabric will suit your needs better. At this point, I can send fabric samples so you can see the options in your space. And we will conduct one final review of the details so you can feel confident placing your order.

I have completed hundreds of one-on-one lamp shade size consults online, and I never get tired of helping someone complete an heirloom lamp so they can enjoy it, or bring a fresh take to an already favorite lamp. I look forward to what we can create for you! -Krista
