These Tassels Invite Color into Your Space in an Unexpected Way
ND Tassel Collection
This tassel collection is inspired by the beautiful work of one of my favorite designers - Nanna Ditzel. Nanna Ditzel was a furniture, jewelry, and textile designer. In 1965, she created a fabric that is still popular today, Hallingdal 65. Made of a blend of wool and viscose, Hallingdal fabric features vivant and unexpected color combinations that rely on visual color mixing (two colors next to each other that create an optical illusion when looked at from further away).

I was inspired by the brilliance of her color pairings - blending a bold color with a calm color to find the sweet spot in the middle, or pairing opposites on the color wheel for a striking, yet almost neutral color result when viewed in large scale.
In making my collection, I blended individual fibers together to manipulate how the colors are perceived. I was most interested in the affects of a using a warm grey versus a cool grey to bend color perception. Even a dull color can have a strong impact on the colors around it.

While the above tassel has no purple in it, the combination of warm grey, pale pink, and bubblegum pink create the illusion of purple when viewed from further away. Looking at in from a closer vantage point gives the viewer a different experience. I love that a seemingly simple object can trick our brains into seeing something that isn't there.
Some of my other pairings include combining red with pink to enhance the pink, pairing cool grey with bright pink to imply a purple range, and the pairing I'm most proud of, pairing primary colors to elude to rich browns. The tassel shown below appears to have browns in it when viewed from further away.

I wanted the other details to be just as special as the the color pairings, so I finished off these tassels with real jasper stone beads that were hand-picked for each unique tassel fringe. The stones are placed around the middle of the tassel, and a glass bead is suspended at the top for a little bit of visual magic. I love how the bead looks like it is floating when these tassels are in use.

These tassels are the perfect finishing touch for a spa-like feel in the bedroom or to freshen up your closet doors. I hope you enjoy the final results of these explorations as much as I have enjoyed making these.
