While this fabric isn't quite a traditional boucle, it has all the glory of a boucle lamp shade. Boucle fabric has little thread loops that give it it's characteristic texture. This fabric is handwoven by Thief & Moth here in Madison, Wisconsin and the extreme variation in thread thickness creates this wonderful boucle-like texture.
I'm in awe at how this lamp shade turned out. This handwoven cotton fabric is truly something special. When the light is off, it is a rich, strongly textured ivory and cream fabric shade. When the light is on, this strong pattern shows through and the color shifts to a natural or wheat color. It's striking on my vintage lamp, and is a cozy addition to my living room.
This shade comes standard with a red triangle stitch detail. Natural thread is also available. Please leave a note in the order comments if you would prefer natural.
Pro Tip: For optimal performance, choose your bulb based on your shade size and not on what your lamp base can handle.
While LEDs emit less heat than the old incandescent bulbs, heat output is not the only thing that affects the well-being of your shade. Lumen output can still have an affect on how quickly a shade yellows with time. A larger shade can handle a higher wattage (or lumen output) bulb, and a smaller shade can handle a lower wattage bulb
Lumen output is how we determine wattage equivalents. A 60W incandescent light bulb that uses 60 watts of power gives off a minimum of 800 lumens of light. A 60W equivalent LED light bulb also gives off a minimum of 800 lumens. This lumen output can still affect a lampshade over time, even if we don't see any immediate damage being done and it never gets warm. I recommend not using more than a 40W equivalent on a 9 in. diameter shade.
